In 2017, "Architectural Digest" selected and announced the most beautiful public school in each state in the USA.  Reviewing a vast range of architectural styles, from Gothic to Art Deco, these structures, both historic and modern, often represent the pride of a community.  HVRHS was recognized as the winner for Connecticut!  While many high school buildings might be rather bland from a design perspective, there are others that are veritable works of art and sometimes mistaken as universities, private homes or even castles.

Designed by architect Ernest Sibley in the Georgian Revival style, HVRHS opened in 1939 and since has seen additions and renovations to its campus. By reviewing the PWA Projects, it has also been discovered that Mr. Sibley used some of the same features in several other schools, including the former Catskill Middle School.

For additional HVRHS historical facts, see Ed and Mary Kirby’s article on “HVRHS History”

as well as their “The Housatonic Valley Regional High School Seventy-Five Years 1939-2014” included on this website under the ABOUT US section.
